I am an electronics engineering technician by trade and have 35 years with the DOD. My passion is woodworking and I anticipate it being a much larger part of my life after I retire in 2012. I started buying tools and building my shop in 2000. For the first 4 or 5 years my wife said my hobby was “collecting tools” not woodworking. In the last 4 or 5 years I have built a number of entertainment centers, dressers, nightstands and cabinets. After I retire I want to get into fine furniture, turning and crafts as well.
My woodworking knowledge is a hybrid of formal education at the local JC and self taught. I live in Roseville California with my shop located in my three car garage. All woodworking tools are stored in one of the three garage spaces on wheels. The other two spaces hold my truck and my wife’s SUV. When I do woodworking the cars go in the driveway and I roll out my tools to utilize the entire garage area.

I’m trying to do a formula like this for shaker doors. I want to do 2 1/4” stile and rails. I would like to be able to enter in my door height and width and then find out what my stile and rail lengths are. Also in the formula I would like to find out what my panel size is and how much b.f is needed based on a waste factor as well. I’ve seen a formula like this before and you could enter how many doors or drawer faces were needed and it would calculate b.f and also how many of each part were needed. Let me know if you can help out!
Have your say...
