Rockwell UNISAW 34-458/Performax 16-32 Drum Sander *Find*
It's been a while since my last post, but wanted to share my finds and maybe get some recommendations.
Well, I periodically check CL to see what's out there and a week ago I picked up an old 14" jet bandsaw for $90, needs a little work, but ok. Now the slippery slope; I am in tool buying mode. I then came across a Rockwell unisaw. I don't have any experience with these but after researching them, they seem to be heirloom machines and I had to get my hands on one or at least check it out.
So, I found the drum sander for a pretty good deal and was able to see the unisaw on the same trip. I live 2 hours from everything, so picking both tools up in one shot was a huge bonus.
I can already see why people love their unisaws. This one is in pretty good shape, everything operates smoothly, its hard to fault anything on it for what I paid. The motor is a 1.5hp import, that works nicely, but I plan to swap out with a baldor or similar. I do need to find or make a blade cover and splitter for the saw though
I like the drum sander and I think I got a decent deal on it, but I am really excited about the unisaw. I have a very small shop and was worried about the unisaw footprint, which is surprisingly small. The unisaw seems like the perfect thing to center my workspace around it.
Got the Unisaw for $375 and the sander for $400.
