« Part 1: What happened........why am I doing this? Part 2 of Lumberjock Reading List - a compilation of formal LJ Reviews and forum comments series Part 3: Reading List Updated Today »

The LJ book list is updated as of today December 27, 2009. LJ Book List.

Of note, is a book by fellow LumberJock Tom Fidgen. Blake reviewed Tom Fidgen’s book, Made by Hand: Furniture Projects from the Unplugged Woodshop and posted it today, Blake's Review.

Tom’s announcement of the book can be found here: Announcement.

Books are placed in the list as reviews appear. You can find the link to the list here, and it is also appended to my LJ signature.

Yes, this is a LJ list. It is basically an index to all of the book reviews on LJ’s, every one I believe. There are also some informal comments that were made on a forum post by Dick Cain, but majority are LJ reviews. I do not put in into the list until a LJ makes a review, at this time. The review is linked, a place to buy the book online is linked, and I place a summary of the review in the entry as well. I made it, voluntarily on my own. I have not asked to have any special links to it, I plan to keep bringing it up in my blog, and if you click on the link at the end of my signature, up it will come.

Thanks for the inquiry, others my have had the same question….......

Oh, and if you look at the first blog in this series, you get a little background. Check out the comments as well. They gave me ample impetus to maintain it.

Thanks Jim
That’s a lot of work thanks for sharing all this information. As do many of the LJ folks ,I have my favorite books
with 650 woodworking books it’s hard to review all of them but I’ll try to contribute on some of what I feel are the best offerings among my collection.

Thank you Jim. I have downloaded this to my desktop “woodworking” folder. This is a really valuable tool when looking at new books.

More of your reviews would be a great addition. I am doing pretty well at keeping it up, usually picking up a review the same day it is made. I may have lag when I am on vacation, sometimes we have internet, sometimes not. Think of it as an index, that’s perhaps the best metaphor.

Ellen
Thanks for the commentary. Hope it is of some value. Actually, maintaining it is easy. It took a little work to get all the old reviews up there, but now it is just an occasional addition.

All
By the way, I am always looking for input as to organization, etc. Right now I am occasionally placing reviews in more than one category to maximize the value of the index. I thought an occasional blog entry, like this one would bring it to mind, and allow me to spotlight someone like Tom who is a fellow LJ. I hope this is appropriate and acceptable.

Thanks for the reference. I am trying to only place books in the list that have been specfically referenced by LJ’s. Right now I am leaning to it being primarily an index of the LJ book reviews. I have some items that were mentioned in Dick Cain’s blog, but I think I will try to get more info on those books from the person who recommended them, and then just stick to the book reviews. Over time, it should become a more and more useful reference, and people will be able to message the author of the review for any details.

Thanks again for all your reviews and input. Chris Scwartz is an author of one or more books on the list, I believe, so your link here may be useful to others as well.
