Well, I finally pulled the trigger and at the Hartville Hardware tool sale, ordered the Powermatic 14” with riser block. I looked at everything and read as much as I could. Thanks to all of you for the input. I decided on the Powermatic rather than the Grizzly mostly because of service, plus I got a pretty good deal ($849), delivered. We have an authorized dealer only 10 miles from me, which really facilitates any kind of service. Should be delivered this week (along with the Jet drum sander (16-32).

I’ll post again after I get it set up. Hopefully the learning curve isn’t too severe. I’ve never owned or used a band saw.

Jat, one thing I would recommend is to get a Woodslicer or Timberwolf blade(s) to go on your saw. It will come with a blade for the saw and another one in the riser kit but these blades are poor quality at best and you will save yourself some grief by putting on a quality blade. Either the Woodslicer or Timerwolf will work just fine.

Thanks Scott. I will be ordering a couple of those today. Any suggestions? I know a different size blade is recommended for re-sawing, curve cuts and so forth.
