Looking for any input on this saw. I am building a shed and trying to stock it with some quality items that will not be obsolete as my woodworking abilities/needs grow in the future. It is a used 1/2 horse (small, I know) Delta Band Saw. Seller (friend) wants $175 for it. I am not new to woodworking, but I am new to hobby work and furniture making, which I would like to use this saw for. Any thoughts…?

Unless you plan on doing any resawing, that bandsaw should work just fine for you. $175 doesn’t sound like a bad deal.

A good deal actually. I spent $300 on a saw more rusty than that one. If the motor works you should be good to go. The rest of the parts, unless seriously abused should be fine. Check the tires on the wheels, if the saw has been sitting for any length of time (especially in an unheated area), they might need replaced if they’re cracked or worn looking.

One thing to consider is, that may be old enough to be an American made machine.

That would be all you need with a riser block and bigger motor you’d be set.
