« Part 3: Workbench design, traditional or go crazy Part 4 of thought of the day series Part 5: Maloof?? »

So I have after two years of telling my wife I would start on a liquor cabinet, actually started it. Unfortunately well maybe inconveniently I also coach softball for my girls which has made it tough to finish before mentioned cabinet. I now have also volunteered on Thursdays and Fridays in my kindergarteners class for a few hours which happens to be my only two days off. On a side not the softball team is 3-1 and just put a 17-11 wooping on a team Sunday. So my thoughts of the morning are how many of us schedule time in the shop versus just trying to “fit” it in. I have tried to schedule time with my family to get an hour or two in the shop but find that I am not nearly as productive as when the urge hits me and time is available at the same time. I also wonder how many of us like me significantly change the plan for your project because of thinking on it while not being able to get into the shop. Anyway I hope everyone has endless shop time and great projects!

Careful what you wish for Jacob. In what will seem like a day or two, hanging out with dad won’t be so cool. And having dad coach your soccer team will be the worst thing that could possibly happen to you. Shop time will come. I finished a cherry hoosier a couple years ago that I started around 25 years ago. The kids will grow up, and you’ll probably finish the cabinet long before that, but if you don’t you’re probably a lucky man.

What Don said. Ive found that as much as I like working and tinkering in my shop time spent with my 1 year old is even better. Ill sneak in an hour here or there after the rest of the house is sleeping. I usually accomplish next to nothing but that’s fine. Ive come to realize that my shop will always be there, the youth and exuberance of my son might not be. Ill soak up all that excitement and firsts on my boy for as long as I can. In the mean time ill give my tools a little down time, they’ll always love me.

Don W said it as good as I could. Time will come that you don’t have beautiful children with you all the time. Enjoy then and you really don’t need a liquor cabinet as much as children time.

Don’t get me wrong gentlemen I am in no way ever going to put the shop in front of my kids or family and live for softball season and coaching both my girls teams.
