I live in a small town, honestly I love it, but there are some draw backs for one as I get more and more into woodworking I thought I would look for a group or guild to join for both expert advice and people to share shop time with. I was disappointed when I realized the closet was the Kansas City woodworkers guild and it was over an hour away. Maybe this is typical I don’t know, I am glad that sites like this are here they have allowed advice and experience to be available to guys like me who are not close to other groups.

I have started a group for my area on Facebook and hope that somehow something will start to grow into a local woodworking group. I was also excited while watching one of Steve’s videos at the thought of wood working contest such as the miniature chair one, I am not finding much in the way of that in my area either. Although I am currently getting to join the KC guild and am hopeful (even though I am early in my woodworking journey) that they will have information in those regards.

Hi Jake,
I have visited the KC woodworkers guild many times as a guest. A great group of guys with alot of skills and knowlege to share. (I am moving to Arizona next month or I would be a full time member now.)
Go visit them you will be glad you did; and as for the drive, well worth it, and just think of all the projects you will create in your head with a bit of time to think as you drive home to Paola

I am planning to join and looking forward to it, I would like a closer group as I have a large family with lots of sporting and school events and do not always have the 2 plus hour round trip time let alone time to spend at the guild.
