I’m building a new router table top. I’ve laminated two pieces of MDF (3/4”) and covered with Formica on both sides. I want to add hardwood banding around all edges. my purpleheart ain't purple!! - 15 replies
I bought a piece of purpleheart the other day, and the faces of it are a deep purple (excuse the inadverntent reference to the great ‘70s rock band, please). But when I cut into this board, it is essentially brown. I turned a couple of pens with it, and they are just brown as well. What gives??

About three years ago I built the table saw sled in the photo. The base is 1/2” cherry ply, the front and back fences are 1 1/2” maple, and the runners are QSWO (for stability).
