I went to Woodcraft for the first time ever in order to get some tools so that I can start doing some turning on my new lathe. Couldn’t have picked a better day to go. The entire store was 15% off. Also, when I walked in I saw a group of people standing around a workbench near the entrance. I recognized the dude they were all talking to and realized that it was Rob Cosman, the great hand-tool woodworker from Canada. He’s on YouTube as well. Check him out.

Pretty cool. Did he give any tidbits of advice? I would like to meet him to try to learn some hand tool techniques from him

A couple of years ago, I took a class on dovetails from him at Woodcraft. I left there with a hand made dovetail joint that was pretty good. Rob Cosman is a very high energy, interesting person as well as a good teacher.

If anyone has a chance, take a class from him…you will enjoy it.

I walked up as he was ending. There were just 3 or 4 people standing around and a Woodcraft worker taking pictures. He was running a plane over a piece of wood clamped to the bench and told us if we want to know what it’s like to use a plane with a blade that is truly sharp, then try the plane out. He sat down and I took a couple of passes, then told him I watched his YouTube channel, then we chit chatted after which I asked him for a picture. He was cool about it and told the guy taking the picture to hurry up because we were doing the awkward man-side-hug.

There were a couple of boards on the bench dovetailed together. I’m guessing he cut them before I got there. They looked perfect. Man, I hate I missed seeing that in person!
