no previous part Part 1 of new woodworker series no next part

Me and my 12 yr old son are involved in Boy Scouts with me being a Woodworking merit badge counselor, so my son has to be the first 1 in the troop to earn this badge.
There are 2 different projects required, and since we are going to a district campout this weekend where there will be awards for the campsite with the most gadgets we decided to make some “address signs” for some of the tents.
He made some templates to rout in the Troop and number. then a template for the position that person heldrouter template
I must say after the initiall un-easy feeling of messing up, he loved using the router.
One of the requirement requires the use of a plane, so I had him use a block plane to knock off the corners
using the plane for the first time
He liked it so much he wanted to practice on scrap wood, and when it came to sanding he jumped right in.
Here is a pic of the completerd project
I can see the “wheels a turning” on what he wants to build next.
I might never get any shop time for myself

Always room in my shop for my boys… and my daughter too (she’s just not allowed to touch anything sharp, yet!)

Your boy did a great job on his sign. It is wonderful that you and your boy are doing things together. Thanks for posting.

Nice project. I was scoutmaster when my son did his Eagle project in my shop. He and his crew cut out, assembled and deployed 11 Bluebird houses. It was a great time. Thanks for sharing and thanks for being involved with Scouts.

The other project thats nneded has to have a lid with mortised hinges. We will build some nesting boxes for a Wildlife Center near by
Just got home from a parent meeting.
Sure is a lot easier working with the boys than the parents
