There’s always so much nice work to see there. I hope I can go next year..

I see you were in some turning classes too… Have you been bitten by the bug?

The cheap blanks are the “gateway drugs” of the pen turning addiction.

When I started, I would look at the kits and think “I can’t see spending $10 or more on those”. Now I have some $40+ kits and $15 blanks… I’m still pondering getting a $150 to $200 Rolex watch part pen blank. It’s about $75 or so for a generic brand one or approximately $200 for one with a real Rolex face on it.

I was talking with the guy who casts them (His name is CaptG on www.penturners.org forum) and he said the Rolex parts are so expensive that only the face is a Rolex, even the hands come from another brand since Rolex hands are $25 or so. Here’s a blank he made…

Keith , I took a seminar with Barry Gross -Turning – Cast your own clear coated pen blanks . He told us how he does his : Watch blank and several other including the one he did in the room . For the watch parts . He said they were expensive but if you go to yard sales or flea markets you can get them cheaper and disassemble them .
Sound simply I might give it a go in the future .

Hi, David:
I finally got time to look through the pictures. Thanks so much for sharing them with us! Your first pen is beautiful, too! :) I really liked seeing everything at the show and I hope that we can make it there soon again.

Thanks Sheila ! Maybe next year you can come . With the cost of everthing on the raise ( gas and hotels , food , etc ; and etc. ) guess I better start saving my pennies now . For next years show . It is amazing what some people come up with .
