I spotted this Bed Rock 604. Another buyer had his hand on it. I had overheard that he said that he is a user not a collector. 15 minutes later, I found the same 604 sitting on the table along with other tools. Feeling sorry for it, I decided to give it a new home. It was a little pricy for an old tool ($50.00) but it was in decent shape. Looks like it does require some clean up. Part 2: Glue up

A dry run was performed first. Evidently, the original threaded rod that came with the plane is not very straight. The tote will rock back and forth as the threaded rod is being tightened. I can see how such rod can put a lot of stress on the tote and contribute to the breakage. The plane’s original rod will not do. Fortunately, I have another one on hand. Part 3: Re-glue

The yellow just won’t work with rosewood. As JC suggested the epoxy should be used. I should know better. It must be old age. I have to learn my lesson more than once. The yellow glue didn’t held up to the test at all. After letting the tote to sit and dry for couple days. It snaps off with easy. The glue really never set. It was still soft. I had to start over. I ran hot water over glue spot and scrubbed with a tooth brush until all the visible glue are gone. This time I used epo...

Finally, I got the finish completed on the tote. Well, I am calling it done. Finishing is just not my thing. So here it is. The picture below shows the repaired tote on my 604 plane which I have also restored. The objective of this blog is on the repair of the tote in a way where the repair is not obvious.
