the box was cut after assembly, the lid rougly fitted then sanded to match the profile, i have a photo of the box open and am trying to load it. my dad thought the wood may be pecan, i was given this wood from my father in law and told that it was walnut.

Hey, thanks for the compliment. I actually attached a hinge by stanley. I can’t rember what it’s called but you attach one side to the lid and one side to the inside of the box and it uses a set screw to not allow the lid to fall freeley. You can adjust it so that it won’t let it close on it’s own weight. If I can rember the name I’ll let you know.
