I need an electrician, and I'm too cheap to pay one - 20 replies

I want to remove the dimmer switch for my dining room lights and replace it with an ON/OFF toggle switch. There are six 65watt can lights in the ceiling. There is only 1 conduit to the box. There is also an ON/OFF toggle switch on another wall that will control these same lights. Here’s a crappy diagram that I drew. The dot...

I'm sick - 18 replies

Hello. I’m hairy. I’m out of control. I was at a yard sale yesterday. This is all I could see. That was all it took. It was buried under lots of stuff. It was dirty and neglected but not abused. I asked if it was for sale. They didn’t know. They took my name and number and called back today and told me what they wanted. I dr...

Back from the dead - 11 replies

This is how it looked when it followed me home. Craigslist has been good to me. After being rust o rated. My operating theory was – If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Everything got cleaned, checked, lubed, adjusted as necessary, but I kept the patina. Patina, that’s a nice word , why doesn’t it apply to peo...

Round glass for picture frames? - 10 replies

I’ve spent a big part of the day looking for some. I went to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. I’ve googled, looked at ebay and amazon. Can’t find any. I did find oval and convex, no flat round glass. I saw many round picture frames for sale. Glass or plexiglass is fine. I don’t want to cut anything. Non glare would be ...

Paint and poly on basswood? - 6 replies

I have a project going that I would like to paint and the spray polyurethane on. I wanted a white wood, basswood is as close as I could find. It’s off white with no dark streaks. When I apply clear poly or lacquer on the scraps it darkens it too much for what I want. I tried painting scraps with white paint and the spray poly over that....

Working with antler - 8 replies

I have a whitetail deer antler that I want to use in a jewelry stand. This is my first time with antler. I will use the complete antler. I have some questions. Do I apply a finish to the antler? I think it might get scratched off in normal use of holding rings, bracelets, watches and necklaces. My plan is to insert a dowel into the antler ...

Another what the heck is it? - 12 replies

I picked these up at the flea market, $15 for the pair. The Bailey #6 looks like it should clean up pretty good. I’m not sure what the other is. I think it would work good in a shooting board. It weighs 9 lbs 11.4 oz. and 15” long. I would have Popeye arms after using it for a while. These are the only marks. Let me know what you ...

Router table blues - 15 replies

I have a cast iron router table top that serves as a wing on my tablesaw. I got it from craigslist. The owner was a machinist working in a well equipped shop. He made the plate that the router attaches to, and did a very good job of it. It is a good fit, leveling screws are part of the table and not the top. The plate is not attached to the t...
