First post, and might i express my extreme gratification with the Lumberjock community and the extensive features provided by this website and its administrators!

Within minutes of signing up to become a member i was already receiving welcome messages from many of the top posters within this community. This is important for a number of reasons, first it acts to break the ice and demonstrated the real openness of this community. Next it really enticed me to actively participate within the community, and this is my first effort to thank all of you!

I have been woodworking for only a short while, but already have a strong knowledge base and a couple fine tools. Most of the work i do is a combination of hand and power tools, as i feel it makes a very large difference in the outcome of each project. I do not have an extensive tool catalog, and many of my tools are used and reconditioned by myself, what i do have works for me and my needs. The most expensive tools in my collection are my squares, marking gauges, safety glasses, under-armor, and stereo system. I use these items every day and i believe i have invested wisely!

Lately i have been working on furniture pieces for my home and family, things like a coffee table, entertainment center, and a few desks; prior to these i spent a great deal of time building the workbenches i use to create my work. Great care went into designing my benches and storage systems so that they would both be very sturdy free standing items allowing me to disassemble them easily for the big move we plan as soon as the time is right.

Projects currently in the works are a couple of contest entries which i hope will allow me to demonstrate my abilities to both design and execute the great vision i have (once in a while) and a few other goodies i will be adding to My Projects shortly.

Stay tuned to this LumberJock, i will be showing the world what this hacker has in him!

P.S. anyone have a supplier for a low cost adze, i really want to return to my namesakes roots!

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the post. “Returning to our roots” is a commendable route to pursue with regards to woodworking. To often we, as woodworkers, think that it can be accomplished only through the latest technology forgetting that fine furniture was crafted for centuries without the benefit of power tools. I will be honest with you in that I could not give up my power tools but am working to improve my marginal hand skills.

I am looking forward to seeing some of your posts.
