SCREWED UP! I forgot to dye first, THEN stain... - 6 replies
In a rush to finish a recent piece (maple), I quickly stained it with an oil-based stain. The only way I’ve been able to get a really dark maple color is to FIRST stain it a couple times with transtint dye in water, and THEN stain it with a typical oil-based stain. I just wasn’t thinking about it while I did the glue ups. Made some really nice white oak cutting boards, about 1.5 inches thick, scrolled into the shape of pigs, cows, etc.. 6 boards in all, totally finished. Then it hit me that I was using titebond orig.. GAH!!!! I know I should have used TB III, but it’s too late for that now...
