hello fellow jocks and jocketts…this is my cherry wood gloat for the year, and probably the only one i will have, i was fortunate enough to have a man advertise that he wanted someone to cut his cherry tree down and use it for furniture and the likes…i was the first to call , i went and checked it out and was like the kid at Christmas, i knew what the present was, i just didn’t know exactly what is was going to look like, the day i cut it it went to the sawyer and now about 2 weeks later, i got the call, ITS READY…i fired up the ole Chevy, and yes its an ole one, 1980..32 years old now, close to being an antique huh, well i got about 3/4 of the bed full, and there is some wonderful crotch wood, and just some of the best looking cherry Ive seen, its a wild cherry, and was pretty good size, they don’t grow to much around here…central Alabama…so i was very happy to get this tree, here it is
and here is one of my friends doing his best to get it loaded
so now here are today’s pictures of my cherry tree gloat
and then i put it in the shed to dry
!https://s3.amazonaws.com/ljimg/m7ufaah.jpg!
this is about it for the gloat, for a hobbyist wood worker, ill have enough cherry to last me a very long time, the first thing to be made will be a gift to the man who gave me this tree, and he was one of the nicest guys ive met, he knew the value and beauty of this tree, and let me save it from the usual around here…yea the fire pit, or fire place or wood stove….......thanks for looking in on the wood gloat of the day…grizz

On my post you said you had some nice cherry. I see what you mean now! It’s pretty as it is isn’t it. Now a year drying at least…. time to make a kiln!
Happy for you Grizz my friend.

Grizz,
Next year I expect to see some of this used for boxes. I usually let wood dry a year per inch of thickness. Others may have different ideas.

yea Al that is about my idea also, but im hoping with it being in the shed, it will dry faster, its sorta like a kiln in there..ive got to invest in a moister meter, but yea, you know there will be a box or two or three…..lol…...the crotch wood is something else and i see a table top or something like it with that…...no other way hardly to show it off…...but i have time to think it over…thanks everyone for your great comments…grizz
