« Part 1: the original idea and the first modifications Part 2 of Bowl Drying Cabinet series no next part

Checked my progress tonight. All the pieces I placed in the kiln have lost enough weight that i can tell by holding them. they all feel substantially lighter. unfortunately, practically all of the whole, non-rough turned blanks have cracked. some are small cracks, but some are virtually split clean through. none of the rough turned bowls are cracked at all and feel light enough to finish turn. this leads me to believe that rough turning them green and then drying them is definitely the way to go. I also think that in hindsight, if you can find an old non working fridge or deep freeze, it will provide better insulating value and allow better heat control and airflow. if i can find one I’ll swap my rig over and continue with my experimenting.
