Mitered shooting board not quite shooting... - 4 replies
I have a shooting board that I have recently attached a mitered section to….well, miter things. The problem is it will inconsistently shoot miters and now I want to shoot thing but not with a board. All puns aside I’m frustrated and would like to ask the kind pool of wisdom to reflect back some soothing knowledge. The details : I...

Soooo Frustrated!! - 7 replies
My Problem : I’m having extreme difficulty in getting a seamless fit on a shoulder of a tenon using a LN rabbet block plane. A few notes : - the piece being tenoned is 7/8” by 1 1/4” in section with a 5/8” integral tenon, and the shoulder depth is 5/16”on the long cheeks and only 1/16” on the short side ...

The charity is for my friend and her daughter. I have been getting pretty familiar with my Lie Neilsen replacement blade and chipbreaker combo(VERY good product for those who haven’t tried it out) for my #6 Stanley. After having the blade perfectly flat for a bit I wanted to see how cambering the would help those annoying ridges that appear at the edge of every pass. So I went ahead...

My next project is a tapered bent lamination bookshelf, I first heard of and became interested in trying the process from reading Tage Frid’s woodworking book series. though he only discusses the concept of tapering outwardly as opposed to inwardly which is the direction I’m going in. Has anyone here been through this process and/...

I recently glued up a stool that I’ll be posting soon and boy was it a learning lesson. I didn’t have a problem going through the motions and completing what I wanted to do, but what I didn’t want was the imprecision. My first trouble was with the slop between the mortise and tenon and that can be fixed with more practice...

I just got an original 1972 copy of Bernard Leach’s adaptation of Soetsu Yanagi’s “The Unknown Craftsman”, and just started reading it. I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts, reviews, or opinions of it or any other “top” books of craft/design/art/architecture?

turning problems: All advise VERY welcome - 12 replies
O.k. so I started turning a little while ago (almost two weeks), and some questions are starting to present themselves with all th problems I’ve encountered. First is the skew…yes the tricky skew. I’ve heard it refered to as the “plane “of turning. I assume it’s because of the quality of the surface it leav...

Where to get solid advice on aesthetics? - 8 replies
Is there a place here to get “educated” critiquing on aesthetics about your projects?By “educated” I mean everyone can critique with their instant opinion and I look forward to that, but I’m also looking for some critiques by some design professionals or at least a skill and trained veteran eye.
