Part 1: Video Blog: Squaring Lumber with Power Tools
Why Square?As a complete novice I was always mystified by the idea of turning rough lumber into square lumber. It was hard to visualize, though I had read many articles. I thought that I would give any of you new to this aspect a glimpse of the process. The value: Start with square lumber = better chance of square project. Part 2: Video Blog: Finishing Softwoods
For the last month or so I have been experimenting with different ways to finish our douglas fir woodwork. It had been stripped and stained. Fir stains very blotchy. I tried : pre-stain conditioner…. shellac…. gel stain… It all turned out blotchy. Final solution. Apply a washcoat of mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil. Apply gel stain while washcoat is still wet. Wipe with clean rag Lots of wood to stain..
