Wood Gloat

I was asked months ago if I would trade some wood for one of my custom turkey calls. i told the guy sure but then forgot about it since I never heard from him. This week he called to ask if i would take a look at what he had to trade.

When I got to his house most of what he had was firewood but then i looked and found a pile of spalted maple that was the best I have seen here. Our maple tends to be soft and colorless. Then I saw a big Osage Orange root ball and he showed me a red oak piece that was in rough shape but I could see spalting in it.

He helped load it and was going to load more but I said this was enough for now. I want to cut it up and see what it has inside before I get greedy and grab the rest.

This only means that you have to make something cool for us to see. Good find.

Thanks guys. I plan on keeping some of it but most I hope is going up for sale. Once I get it milled so I can see what I have I will decide what goes where.

That must have been a NICE turkey call if he swapped all that wood for it. That hedge should make a beautiful call.
