Kiitchenaid Pullout

Here is a pullout I built for my Kitchenaid Mixer. It was a real pain to pull it out of the cabinet. Now it’s much easier. Built entirely from scrap in one day. Works great!

Nightstand Project

Here are the Maple Bedside tables that I built. I used the plan from Wood Magazine Nov 2008. My wife bought me the plan here. I made a few changes. I built one deep drawer instead of two shallow drawers and I made the top a bit smaller. I also used pocket screws instead of mortise and tenon construction. I did this to speed up the building process. I Had to get the tables done before winter set in. This was my first time laminating material for legs. Kind of a pain. Next time I would make a trip to the hardwood dealer for thicker material. The finish is Tried And True Varnish Oil. The tables match my dresser and mirror that I also completed this summer. I found a nice matching bed frame in a local furniture store that I will use as inspiration for my next project. I have to build some other odds and ends to complete my bedroom set. I have really enjoyed getting back in the shop this year. It was a very productive summer by my standards.

I built this Mirror frame that goes with the dresser I finished recently. The plan is from WOOD Magazine Jan 2009. It was a super easy build. It only took a weekend. I already started the matching bedside tables to complete my bedroom set.

Dresser Project

I FINALLY finished my dresser that I started in March on 2010. I used the plan in the Jan 2009 issue #188 of WOOD magazine. The dresser is Maple with several coats of Tried and True Varnish Oil. I learned a lot in this build. I have a six inch jointer. I did not want to have glued up drawer fronts. I also had a really nice 13” wide Birdseye Maple board for the top. I made the planer sled that was featured in FWW a wile ago. It worked like a charm. I used a locking drawer joints for the first time. I made tapered legs for the first time. I accidentally cut a bunch of biscuit slots on the wrong face of 2 of the legs. Only visible when the drawers were out, but it bugged me. So I planed some maple down to thickness and made biscuit shaped patches that make the slots pretty much dissapear. I posted a pic of the repair. My wife loves the look and storage of this dresser. Next I am going to build the matching wall hung mirror and bedside tables.

Changing Table / Dresser

I made this changing table/ dresser, for my son. It is based on a free plan I found online. I built this to last! It weighs a ton. I know my boy will probably use it for his kids, at least I hope so!

The case is made of birch ply, the face frame, drawer fronts and edging are maple. The finish is a wipe on poly gel that I purchased from Rockler.

Step Stool

Here is a step stool I made for my son. I found a picture of a similar one online and said to myself “I can make that!”

It is made from Quarter Sawn White Oak. The finish is a wipe on poly gel that I purchased from Rockler. I made a template for the sides and used my router to cut the matching pieces. I did not yet have a good dado set so I had to use my router to made the grooves to support the step. I reinforced the joint with countersunk screws and titebond III glue. Then I cut tapered plugs from the leftover scrap. It is really solid, and I really like the finish. I also helped my father in-law build one for my nephew.
