FYI:All woods dont float - 23 replies

I had a discussion with a carpenter friend yesterday and he said all wood will float at least until it gets waterlogged. So today I dropped a smallJatoba [Brazilian Cherry] cut off in a bucket of water and it sank like a brick! Im curious about how many other woods dont float?

what to use between coats of finish - 6 replies

I see people using 220 to 600 grit sandpaper,steel wool,etc between succesive coats of finish.They all seem to leave significant[visable] scratches so I have been using scuff pads.The green ones seem pretty agressive and the gray ones dont do a great job getting rid of dust nibs.Spar urethane is the finish in question[both sprayed and wiped on]....

Random orbit vs palm sanders - 11 replies

I have the Dewalt version of both of these{Buying the set was cheaper than buying separately].I dont use the palm sander much.Is there a need for both?What do you all use each type for?

Is the Porter Cable at 169$ a MUCH better tool than the B&D for 59$?I know its better but is it 110$ better? I have finally just about killed my B&D and need to replace it.Thanks for your input.

Aluminum Bar Clamps - 7 replies

I just saw a CL post fer 38 4foot alum bar clamps for $140.Ive never used these and would like input from someone who has.Dont know the brand but the CL post said they cost $28 a piece new so this seems like a bargain IF they are useful.

Clogs in the DC hose - 10 replies
