I searched for a site like this for a long time

I ran across this site and had to share with my friends here at LJ’s. You may find a used piece of equipment or tool that you have been wanting here. It is public government surplus auction site that can be broken down by each state. Check on your state and then click browse, It will compile a list of the auctions going on in your state and local government. Hope this helps someone looking for that special bargain.

Piping in the Shop and around the House

I just posted this information on HokieMojo’s blog

I hope this helps someone planing a dust collection system or air piping.

Plumbing 101 ( I used S&D piping on my dust collection system.)

Below are different types of pipe and their general uses.

Schedule 80 PVC is gray and is mainly used for commercial applications. Also very expensive.

#1- Schedule 40 PVC can be used for pressure or drainage applications and has a wall thickness of about a 1/4 inch. The pipe is white and the color code printed on the side, most of the time is either red or blue. The fittings are different though. The fittings for drainage are called DWV (drainage, waste, vent) and they do not make them in a size less than 1- 1/2” and anything 1-1/4” and below is strictly used for cold water pressure applications only. (This pipe can melt if used on Hot water!!)

#2- What we plumbers in my locality call foam-core can only be used for DWV application. They came out with this product a few years back to save cost in manufacturing, plus it does not conduct noise as much when used on drainage, regular schedule 40 conducts a lot more noise. Foam-core pipe is also more brittle and breaks easier. The (ID) or inside diameter and the (OD) outside diameter of foam-core and schedule 40 are exactly identical. The pipe is also white and the color code on this pipe is usually Black. Uses the same glue and primer as schedule 40.

#3- S&D piping is PVC pipe used strictly for underground utilities such as septic tanks and storm drain connections for down spouts. It has a wall thickness of about 1/8 to 3/16 inch. I do not think this pipe comes in any other sizes larger than 4 inch or 6 inch. The fitting choices for this pipe is limited. However they do make hub adapters enabling you to use schedule 40 fittings. Same glue and primer as schedule 40.

#4- CPVC piping is used for domestic water. Hot or Cold. The pipe is usually beige with a black lettering code on the side and the glue used is orange.
NOTE! (You can not use regular PVC glue on this pipe) this pipe cannot be mixed with PVC. the sizes are slightly different.

#5- schedule 40 Galvanized threaded pipe is for water and air applications. It is not used for gas because the galvanising can flake and cause blockages in the orifice. Note (most building codes do not permit use for water any more)

#6- Schedule 40 black threaded is mainly used for natural gas and petroleum products.
NOTE ( Do not use for air lines) The moisture in the air will cause rust on the interior walls and then be transmitted to the equipment being used, such as spray guns, etc., etc.

I hope this helps someone and God bless

P.S. About grounding. I am sure it needs to be grounded with the wire ran on the inside of the piping. If you spiral rap it on the outside? Well, (YOU) won’t get a static charge. However, this will not prevent a fire. I may be wrong, so (PLEASE) check this aspect out before your installation.

Follow up on high gas prices and the Woodworker.

In my previous post I expected one question up front and to my great dismay, I did not get it. What does high gas prices have to do with the everyday woodworker? What is the tie-in?, or just what does this have to do with woodworking. Well it looks like I will have to volunteer the reasoning behind my dismay. I, for one, would like to see formed a Common Sense Advisory board to the President of the United States, made up of woodworkers such as yourself from all walks of life. Doctors, Lawyers, Electricians, Plumbers, Laborers, Truck drivers, Factory workers, Retiree’s etc. Why? Ask yourself this question. Doesn’t it seem like our government has completely lost touch with it’s people and no one there seem to process the least bit of common sense? Well, most of the woodworkers that I know and from the ones here on LJ’s do have one thing in common, “Common Sense” I feel that it is high time the people of this country have a little more control or at least have a way of showing their agreement or their disagreement with how things are going.
One other thing, I must have to admit that I knew that you would agree with or disagree with me on my last post. But, out of about 200 or so views, There were only about 4 replies for which I also am most grateful . I guess , I had expected just a few more. Could it be, not as many of us care about what it is costing each of us, each time we fill up at the pump as I had previously thought. I will continue to contact our government and our representatives , even becoming a pain in their side, if that is needed to get something done about our energy problems and cost. May God bless each of you and your family’s, the United States , the rest of the World and may he also grant peace on earth.

High Gas Prices and the Woodworker

A few weeks ago I started a blog about woodworkers and high gas prices. It was brought to my attention, that I had broken the posting rules because of an edited copy of a letter that I had sent to president Bush being in the post, so I immediately removed the questioned post.
This post has to do with high gas and fuel cost and a simple common sense way to deal with the problem. It is non political in nature. Please take the time to watch the video that I have just released to the world on You-Tube. Click on the link below to view. I hope that if you agree with what I have to say, you will spread the word to friends, neighbors, fellow workers, civic and church groups. Anyone that is a concerned citizen. Then get involved. A couple of stamps or e-mails from everyone can and will change our country. I feel that our country needs a jump start and I hope that you feel the same as I. “God Bless the United States”

If this post is against the posting rules? Please remove it, Thanks

A Fresh Update on the Old Health

Hi! Everyone,
My good friend Richard out in Nevada, just reminded me in another blog, to get an update on my health out to everyone. As of today, I feel like I am 40 again and stuck with a pair of 80 year old legs. I am 63 years old. Go figure! I am really doing great, now if they can just get my legs in just a little better shape. I will be in great shape. Even thinking of getting a couple of horses for the wife and I, to go along with the home we are going to buy. I continually thank God for your prayers for me and his continued help. May each and every one of you and your family’s be blessed in return for the blessing that has been placed on my life. I thank God each day for your prayers. If I were to feel much better, I’d have to be tied down. I can out walk my wife at the mall now. I haven’t been able to do that in 15 years. God Bless You Each!

Still having Computer problems

I just timed the time it took for our home page to load on my computer. 3 min. and 10 sec. and I have a cable modem. If I were using dial-up the page would never have loaded. If the new membership has dropped in the last couple of weeks? I think that this could be the problem.

Hi! Everyone,
Has anyone else been having trouble getting pages here on LJ’s to load? Some of the time my computer acts like it is on dial up instead of cable. I don’t seem to be having any problems with any other sites. Do I need to contact my server or what???? It seems to be the opening page only. If someone is using dail-up, they probably time out before they can get on the site. I almost hope that it is my computer.
Thanks and God bless

Need Help on Editing software for Video

Hi! Everyone,
I am trying to convert a video that I have shot on my video camera for uploading to the site. My question is, What is the best program to purchase in order to get my video to load as a complete video instead of breaking it down into short segments? I know that the videos I see everyone uploading here are not segmented. Thanks for any help you can give. The next post that I make will probably interest most of the members. Thanks again!
God bless

A new update on the old health and selling the shop

Hi! everyone,
I just wanted to give you an update, on how the prayers and the medicines are working. The surgeon that put me on the medication to expand the arteries and blood vessels in my legs wanted me to start walking as far as possible once a week. To get an idea as to how the medication is working.
The first day that I started on the medication, I could make it one and two thirds trips at a fast pace, the length of my driveway before my legs just hurt so bad, I could hardly walk. One week later, I made it four trips, I could have done more but the wife said that we had to leave to go somewhere. I feel better at this time than I have in about 15 years. The feeling is fantastic. Please continue to hold me in your prayers as I will be doing the same for you.
As for the shop. I started packing it up in a pod for the up coming move. The new house is almost completed.
They are going to build me a 24’X 28’ shop. Just waiting on the surveyors to show up. Don’t want to build to close to the property line. When they get ready to start, I will take some photos and share them with all of you, here at LumberJocks.
I told my wife that I was going to make this shop functual and not spend a lot of time setting up a layout such as the one I have now. I would be dead before it could be completed. (LOL)
God bless all of you that have been praying for me and all who have shown their concern.
