I finished the miter saw bench, then built the lumber rack from the WWMM collection. I should have made the rack six feet wide instead of the four foot in the plan. The miter saw bench is not much to look at, but provides a lot of handy storag...

I'm a fairly boring person, retired after too many years working in the computer software trade. I did get to do very minor work on very large, glamorous projects (over 20 space shuttle missions), but every thing I ever did there is totally obsolete and forgotten.
All my life I have loved to build things: Tinker Toys and Erector Sets as a kid, bunk beds and jungle gyms as a dad, and always "we need more storage" as a husband. Those things are mostly gone too.
We retired to a farming community and built our "toes up" house on a plot I call "Three Acre Woods Adult Day Care and Detention Center". Ruled, of course, by The Warden. I think she loves me, but not as much as her dogs. Anyway, I got a bay of the garage for my very own workshop. The shop is partitioned off from the cars and is 23x12ft with 10ft ceiling. There is a standard garage door at one end and a 5ft French door at the other. The French doors lead to a breezeway between the house and the garages. I can make as much noise and dust as I want!
Now I'm going to try my hand at making something that might last. First thing, of course, is workshop furniture.
-- What's a vibrant young guy like me doing in a broken down old body like this?

We had a very cool summer here in the South, so I was able to work on the shop most mornings and some afternoons. The shop is heavily insulated but not air conditioned. I have a little 1500 watt electric radiator for the winter, doing a bangup j...
