I’m talking to my mom the other day and she tells me, ” oh I was down in grandmas cellar and I saw an old girl scout cookie box. It had some of those skinny plane things you like”. Naturally I started to salivate.
As luck would have it, circumstances prevented me from obtaining them for a whole week. Since my mom was really vague on the description the suspense was killing me.
Finally I obtained the box and as I opened it a beam of light shown out and a choir of angels sang in the distance. It was only 7 planes but they were my great grandfathers. Not only that but the two beads I found make a complete 1/8 set when I combine them with my finds from Grandma’s attic from a few years ago. The other five planes? 10,12,14 hollows and 10,14 rounds all by howland and co. NY. Checking the batch from the attic I found the matching 12! Thanks great grandpa!

For an anniversary present, I asked my wife for a copy of “Moulding’s in practice.” I’m hoping I’ll be able to put them to use soon.

Your GLOAT screams “YOU SUCK”!!! Gosh you must be proud to know you’re a decendent of an established woodworker?

Well, I wasn’t going for a “you suck”, but yes, I am very proud of my Great Grandfather. I have to take up a alot of slack since he had all girls, and no interested son-in-laws to pass the craft too. Sadly, I never got to meet him. Also sad is the knowledge my grandfather “Cleaned out a bunch of junk” from the basement years ago, so God only knows what there was originally.

Have your say...
