red trunk

I saw a picture of something like this a year or so ago online. This is the second of two that I made. The first was a Christmas present for my 3 year old nephew. The second one you see here is for an outdoor garden area where is has been for the last year until my recent bathroom remodel. No artificial distressing here! It now covers up the laundry chute to the basement laundry room until I finish the piece of furniture that is supposed to go there.

It is made of pine and put together with glue and screws, no fancy joinery on this one. Just something quick to have a place to set my beer in the garden and store some tools. On the front I have mounted an old Craftsman reel lawnmower hubcap for fun. In the future I’d like to experiment a little more of this type of mixing woodworking with found objects. The hubcap used to be a lot shinier though.

adirondack chairs

I built a pair of adirondack chairs a few years back and figured I could use the practice at posting a project. I built a pair of them based on plans I found on the Lowe’s website.

This was my first and so far only attempt at building chairs. I used cedar that was already surfaced on three sides and hand-planed the 4th side to smooth it so I wouldn’t get splinters when moving them around.

Tools I used were a cordless drill, cordless circular saw, jig saw, and handplane.

They are unfinished and are now completely silver in color and the arms are a little chewed up (my dog seemed to take a liking to the taste of cedar when nobody was around).
