Having a Wood-Full Snow Day
....and then the snow came. Yes that is what caught my attention early this morning as I climbed out of bed. First stop was out into the connected hallway to grab some wood for the bellies of our wood stoves. Getting up and at’em about 3:30 in the morning, when the stoves are down to ashes, can be a little bit cold around here, so I’m not wasting time as I move to get those stoves going.
It started snowing yesterday afternoon, but soon tapered off in the evening and then came back in the night hours. I noticed the clocks were off so realizing that we had already experienced power outs, I waste no time in completing my shower. Ha! Just the thought of losing power while in the shower, in a cold bathroom was enough to hurry me on my way.
Next on the agenda, was the power going out and staying out, so then I grabbed a flashlight and went looking for candles….no internet blogging this morning, so I started writing the way I used to do it before computers came along. Actually I still write with pencil and paper, and then some of my stuff goes to various sites, while some remains in all those stacks of journals over in the corner of my office.
No water from the well, so it was time to head for the spring and fill those jugs up with Adam’s Ale and then after a fast breakfast it was time to fire up the plow truck. Snow clean-up loses it’s romantic feelings around this time of year, especially when just yesterday all the snow cover on the ground was gone and the fields were well on their way to drying up somewhat. Well in all things give thanks and you will soon become a happy camper so as I plowed, I gave thanks!
Yes, the power did come back on around 3:00 and so it was, that all returns to order….but then when I think about it, maybe when the power was off, was when there was real order of the day and now I am back to being in dis-order….
....and then there was my table from Sunday all covered with snow today and all the while growing in character….
....Here’s another one thats been drying and curing for some years also, problem is I’ve not been able to mill this yet….46’’ in width….
....and then this afternoon I just had to take this picture of the wild turkey, these turkey’s can really get around….
