Inside Looking Out

....and so today i am sitting here, yes my place of hearing rest within the blog of this morning’s posting, a view of my way of seeing the dream, from ‘the inside looking out’....

As a worker of wood, I am always on the lookout for a new dream of some wonder-full images on my kaleidoscope of ‘wood art’. And so here I am again taking a break, as I meander around in the shop looking for that special, only one piece will do kind of board, to cut some trim from….and time stops as I pause to gaze out at the view that so surrounds me.

I am surrounded by, caught up in, hopelessly lost within and yet so blessedly found within this dreamscape of the landscape that so infatuates me with the longing of desire that comes from working the wood. Whether I am working in the forest of trees that links me to the wood or in my shop making sawdust and even to the point of walking the corridors of isles at some saw-makers-lumber-yard….I am linked with my thoughts of wood as they are the dreams of what shall yet be….more, ‘wood art’!

....and so here I go dreaming again of what shall you yet be….

I cut this burl a few years ago and it has been doing drying time, however there is a pull coming from the wood that is causing me to start paying more attention to this one….ah yes, the birthing of an image is starting to gather up place-of-space within my head….and yes, in case your wondering, this is how it all starts. In the winter time I tend to gather my dreams around me and sort them out as I prepare to start creating with the bloomings of spring. And can I say spring has sprung, well at least in my spirit it’s bloomin’ spring time!!!

Thank you all, for also looking and dreaming with me.

1) great scene
2) marvelous photo (beautiful rich colours of the window frame surrounding the graphic design of the grey trees streaking through the cover of white which are also splashed with shades of grey in the foreground)
3) excitedly waiting to see what the burl is saying to you

I’ve got to tell a little “calling to me” story – not related to wood (unless you remember that a book is made of wood). Yesterday as I was waiting for my appointment to get my truck’s oil changed I decided to “waste” my time in the local “Value Village” (a store selling used everything). During my saunterings I decided that I should pick up a book to read while waiting for my truck to be done and I looked for a small western novel. There were no books in the “westerns” section and so I just let my eyes scan the shelves of books waiting for something to catch my eye. There amongst some parenting books was a little “westerns” book. Cool!! I bought it; took my truck in; started to read.
The first page of the book focused on the family fighting to save their land and huddled in their home was a young girl named Debbie – ha… this is very interesting… and her younger brother Thomas (also the name of MY younger brother).. OK so this is REALLY interesting. The book definitely had been calling to me. A few pages on, with a smile still on my face as I mulled over the coincidence, it mentioned the local town named Northfield—also the name of the little hmmm hamlet in which i grew up. (Actually the north field from which the name grew was our farm. Debbie, Tom, Northfield.. yup.. the book was definitely calling to me. It must have been the Spirit of the Wood that the pages were made from.

You fill up my senses like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses, come fill me again.
