Art-Fully Sounding Wood Piece Sculpture

....and in this moment of my now, as i followed the scattered grain of thought , that espoused those views of points, opin’iated concepts of those many walking before….

—-from all this my soul soon grew aweary, till i-me-my spirit discerning the need of the hour, spoke words of wisdom into my soul, that emanated throughout the halls of my bowels….

—-come thou seedling son of jonah, and we as one shall absquatulate from this confinement of wood, ‘paturiency’ is the woody word of the day, since from my need i birthed this art-fully sounding wood piece sculpture….

Here is a piece of ‘wood art’ that I did some years ago, actually my first attempt at getting a sculpture out-of-the-wood and into view. Some talk about the automated writing process and this piece here was my introduction into what I now call ‘automated wood sculpture’. The sculpture was done in some scrape pine I found in the shop and also before the days of having all my different kinds of spoons and gouges. I laugh now since as I remember there was the use of a timber chisel and a gouge involved along with a pocket knife….those were the days of barn building. Still gives me a laugh even now when you conisder timber chisel and how this relates to the size of this sculpture….6’’ x 5’’. As I always tell folks, its not the tool but how the tool is used in the hands of the one holding that tool! This sculpture is a ‘spiritual piece’ for me and sets in my office while keeping me on track to my own walking of the way. So I will not explain it and if you get anything out of it well, just enjoy and give thanks….

...and one more close up….

I have finished the piece in boiled linseed oil and there is no-name….this one; ‘just is’....

Frank this is magnificent and very powerful. I will be coming back to this one again and again for inspiration on my journey – it provides a challenge to question, to clarify, to wonder, and to “just be”.

thank you so much for “just being”.

Frank – very nice! I especially like the story relating the size of the timber chisel relative to the piece. It is not the tool but the hands holding the tool that make the difference!
