Been Workin’ at Wood

....and so I have,
and so I yet will be,
and so I just can’t get enough,
of that thing called workin’ wood
!

Well just some photos here of what’s going on around here at the moment, as I’m preparing for the best of winter. One of the opportunities that is presented to me up here, as I go through the seasons, is the ongoing adjustment to the need of change. And so I have been busy, and then more then a little busy at getting wood in and split. Still there is more….out there in the woods, trees down and more trees to come down as I also start thinking that ever present ‘one year ahead’.

Just like those squirrels that some of us become at this time of year….I never saw a squirrel who thought he had enough nuts and so am I, as I gather my wood-nuts for the stories of winter fires….

....more yet to come in as I just can’t get enough. And then even in this pile, is wood that I was sorry to have to cut up for firewood, as I was thinking of how it could be objects of ‘wood art’....

....and yes, before I can finish stacking here, I’ve got to get rid of all those leaves….ugh! The leaves are right color-full and full of character when they’re, there on the trees, but this is what I call ’leaf-spam’....and still ’leaf-spam’ has a place of good, since to the gardens it will go. And no, there still is not enough wood here, so since the rains have stopped from yesterday, it’s back to the forests I go….

....and so it was on Friday evening, that I came across a piece of birch bark, that came off as I was splitting some wood. Well, what can I say….still workin’ outside, so I made use of these rocks to use as a drying vise, while also making some images of beauty….

....closer up I have clamped the bark in the vise so that this one will dry out and retain a form….for making an-other ‘one piece’ birch box….

....and so life is good….and life is free….to all those who still make use of living by workin’ wood….

Thank you.
GODSPEED,
Frank

Nice set up you got there Frank
I haven,t even started getting my firewood yet. One of them 4 wheelers sure would help.

Great use of a natural vise. It sure is a heavy one.

Thanks Frank! Reminds me of my Dad’s back yard. He too is a squirreler of wood for the coming storms. He typically only feeds 1 main stove, I think I remember reading that you stoke 3 fires! Much more stacking you must do, I am sure. I also like your stack of granite, very cool.
