Live in the woods….Wood Art
Well here we go….while out last Saturday working in the woods, I happened to be down in a place that does not get into my normal forest travels. I was down in this area last fall cutting trees for this winter’s burning and happened to be down here not long ago looking at some trees that had recently fallen, due to storm winds. Last Saturday was spent cleaning those trees up and while on a break that morning, I decided to waunder around.
Found this piece of pine that I had cut last fall, sitting against a tree and after examining it, I could see that it was developing some nice character. So first off I re-cut the top of a stump to give me a fresh and even workspace….yes, a workbench in the forest of my outside workshop. I am deep in the woods here, so all that makes sounds is my chainsaw, my movement and the wildlife that surrounds me here. So there’s my workbench and next in order was to start de-barking the pine with the lockback knife….of course at this time, I had thoughts of bringing the piece of wood in with me to finish curing in the barn….
....one more photo here of the now de-barked piece of pine, propped up in a standing position….ha!, and then my imagination kicked in after hearing the wood say, “there’s more to be done here for a time”. And then I saw….I’m one of those folks who all-ways believes in giving back or leaving behind some-thing of what was given to me and so I saw the beauty of creating some live in the woods….’wood art’....
....looking around I started collecting some all-ready colored leaves and spots of green to make a collage of colors and wood against the background of a forest that will soon turn white. So here’s what I came up with….
....going closer in….yes, that some stripped birch bark I found in my gatherings….
....thought I would add an offering of thanks at the base of my workbench….
....and then as I cast my eyes upward I could see why this part of terra is so blessed….
....giving thanks for the trees and all the beauty here….I knew also that it’s time to get back to work….many hours to go before my day is done, but loving every minute of it….and yes, I will yet come back and gather the piece of pine at an-other time….
”....work smart, work safe, and live, to work the wood.…”
