Surrounded by Wood

Yep it’s coming, just as the squirrels are gathering their nuts, I’m busy bringing in this seasons winter firewood, to be ready for the long drawls of snow that will soon be gracing the land.

So the other day found me out in the woods….hmmm, doesn’t about everyday find me out in the woods? Well so be it, there I was cutting up some leftovers on a part of section that had some blow-down and being around 4:00 or so, a rock wall grabbed my attention. So shutting off the chainsaw and grabbing my camera, I decided to have a sittin’ spell. Dosen’t take long for the woods to come alive and lesser yet for my imagination to kick in so here we go….

....these walls never cease to amaze me, out in the depth of forest, trees and wood….one comes upon these monuments to the backbreaking duties of what New England men used to do with their spare rocks. So getting into the spirit of things, I started waundering till I came upon this one that was taken down around 2000….that’s some board feet of pine there in this one, it was 38’’ across….

....trunks are all-ways a favorite of mine, so here we go….

....and on the other side….

....an-other one I found here….

....looking up, I saw this one watching me….

....so I went over and looked inside….

....ah yes, birches are a wood of beauty….

....leaving the rock wall I start to walk….

....did some-one say I’m supposed to be working….

....well there’s some wood ready for the chainsaw….

....so why am I looking over here….now I know what was in my mind….

....life is really so simple and easy….

....yes I know it won’t be long, till December rolls around, so I’d best be getting ready for my trip up north, time to get on home….

Thank you.

Frank

You are a real hedonistic, Frank. Even here, on the opposite side of this world of ours, I can actually feel the pleasure you get out of your wanderings out in the woods.

And that’s what’s all about, after all. As I see it, those precious times is what you’ll get from this life, and for those who prefer the rat-race… well, let’s leave it to them if that’s what they wish!

So much New Hampshire, so little digital camera memory….I like how the fourth picture from the end has the Delta triangle sign, marking the approaching change in seasons. Trip up north…ha, you better start eating more desserts too, all that workin and walkin in the woods, you’ll never fill that suit. :)
