Handwork in Progress:
—-’at making a …..’

....and so this one here is a work in ‘the process’ which should be done today or tomorrow, depending on what and where my kayak decides to go today!

Not getting much time in the shop at the moment, as the powers that be….those gods of the water are taking my time and once in the grip of their clutches, kayak and I are one. Summers in NH can be short and so I use and plan, along with being spontaneous for all the free time I can accumulate to explore the waterways and lakes of the area. Today, partly sunny and warm and so I will head out….and then there’s the weekend when all woodworking stops and again I’m gone. I cannot really say that all woodworking stops since wherever I go, I am looking for that piece of ‘wood art’ that is lying on some shore line or some uninhabited island in the middle of some lake. Ha!....and then there’s always that log that is in tow behind the kayak as we head back to camp.

So yesterday evening I managed to get some shop time as I was busy building a new hand tool for the ”Summer Woodworking Awards” here at LJ. I’m not going to say the name of thie tool at the moment snice it’s not completed yet and also I thought that some might like to take a guess at what is being put together here, or maybe someone knows….and so, what say you….what is the name and what or how is this one used?

....hint, ’wood joinery’.... and this is a hand tool to be used for hand …..

....also it might be good to understand that all you see, in the way of diagrams may not be part of the ‘hint’ or the ‘story’...., but all here if understood again in the light of ‘wood joinery’, has a story to tell, but then one might just get the name from looking at what is being made….

....and….

....and….

....and then also it might help to remember, that I cut and saw most of my wood joints by hand….”yes I do, Sam I am….I do so like ‘wood joints’ by hand….and again I hope to complete and post by Wednesday or Thursday….

....and then also no wood story can ever be complete without a flower….’day lily’ to go along with this blog in the season of beauty….

I’m sorry if I do not get back today on any answers, but will try and look here once more before I head out and then will check in again tonight….have a ‘very good’ day!
Thank you.

Frank

Looks like a Bosch saw blade there Frank. Have you used it so much that its worn in half. Or did you just cut the blade portion off.

Hi Karson;
—-yes there ’is’ or ’was’ a complete Bosch saw blade there until I put the blade in a vise, scribed a line and then hammered it over….actually the steel is tempered so hard that the blade never went all the way over, before it just kind of shattered clean at the line. Just one of many steps in the making of this ’.....’!

Hi Mot;
....Hmmm….sparked my curiosity also, so I went and made one….

I’m out of here and off to the lake….

An enigma wrapped in mystery, shrouded by ambiguous meanderings of a kayaking woodsman poet. I like it..!

Frank:

Did you get rid of the Bosch Fine Tool or just decided you had a new use for a portion of the blade. I guess you could sharpen what was left as a foam cutting blade.

—-hi Karson;
...I’ve never owned the Bosch Fine Cut, powered handsaw, although at one time I seriously was looking into getting one, when I was doing a lot of trim and punch list installs. Still think it’s a great tool, just not doing that type of work at the moment, actually I find that my Fein multimaster still gets a lot of attention though. Bosch and Fein….great company’s, great tools and I find they last.

....I only bought that saw blade so that I could split the portion, separate the section I took out….’I needed those teeth ’. I like what you said about ‘other’ purposes for what remains and yes, I will be looking into doing something with that portion that is left. The steel is really tempered quite hard, so I will probably re-cut some portions off and use for making small woodworking picks and scrapers.

—-hi Debbie;
....actually I’m not taunting at all and the wood never taunts….it just whispers, ”all is well, come sit a while and I will reveal!” Taunting is for those who flaunt and I have nothing here to flaunt, since I’m only taking any who might want to come along with me on a ‘woodworking jaunt’.

....whenever, I put together a ’......’ such as this, or any other object for working the wood, I am always learning, never do I ever make the same one twice in the same expression that was before….and so even with this one I will myself also learn and make another one again in the future that is better yet. And so if I was to taunt, then the taunting is only at myself. You or any others are invited to watch, and if you get inspired as I do get, well then go and make one and in your making exceed what I have shown and then I will have succeeded in my inspiration.

—-hi Bob;
....now you speak the words of a poet yourself….I like what you have said here; ”....ambiguous meanderings of a kayaking woodsman poet….”

Thank you all and I will get this one finished up latter in the day!

Frank

then the taunting is on my end…. a personal challenge yet to be taken up….
I haven’t even used hand tools let alone thought of making one myself. Perhaps some day.
