Another Picture Frame

Picture frames tend to match my skill level at the moment, and budget for wood! This was my first attempt at doing any kind of join which didn’t involve “force” (eg, screws/nails) to hold it together, just glue.

Routed out the joints just by marking them and using a router, not sure if thats the easiest way, but seemed to work, I’d probably make the jig a bit different if doing it again.

Pretty happy with how this came out, just finished it off with 2 coats of poly.

Toolboard

Until last weekend, I could never find my tools (I’ve still got a chisel missing somewhere in the carport), they would go in boxes, on the bench, in my office.. basically the closest “storage” space to where I was using it. Finally got sick of it and decided to throw together a tool board. Nothing fancy, just a piece of MDF and some scrap wood. I should have made the hammer holders longer though, after I had put up the board I found another hammer hiding behind one of my cupboards.

Hopefully I’ll be able to find my hammer next time I need it (and I need it a lot at the moment.. everything looks like a nail to me)

(not sure why the picture has gone sideways?)

First attempt at picture frames

These is my first attempt at picture frames. After spending ages trying to get a mitered picture frame to come up square I eventually gave up and just went with this design. The joins are just butted straight together and glued with V nails in the back for a bit more strength. Next frame I make I’ll try some actual joinery I think.

These were a gift for my wife, she liked the natural look of the timber, so I’ve left it unfinished.

Dog Kennel

First project posting.. don’t abuse me too much :P

I build this kennel for my two big dogs (dalmatian and Portuguese water dog) since I was sick of them sleeping in my alfresco and getting hair everywhere!

Mostly built out of scrap I’ve plundered from work site bins. I really had no idea what I was doing here having never attempted to build a frame, or even really to think to google for plans! The aim of the day was definitely function over form and the dogs seem to like it :)

The hardest part was cutting the panels for the outside, I didn’t have the correct blades to do it, and being poor and lazy, just used what was in my power saw, needless to say, that blade is now stuffed.

All up, I think this cost me about $20 to built, mostly in screws and the plywood floor (well, more than that if you count the blunt saw blades.. but I wont do that ).
