After cutting my glued up strips into strips and flipping them I realized my planer was not planing evenly on both sides. So the board could not be glued together and could not be fixed. Thought I’d share this to humble myself and let others know that failures do happen to most of us.

I made this box as a donation to a local golf course’s tournament for seniors. The box is poplar, with 1/4” box joints made on the tablesaw with a homemade jig. I found the outline of a putting golfer online and printed it on my printer to the proper size to fit the box lid. I use carbon paper to transfer the design to the box. The wavy outline was just done freehand The background is routered out, then I stained it green and the rest of the outside of the box stained as well and coated with a few coats of wipe-on poly.

Cat Door

I have two indoor cats that use a litter box in the laundry room. Rather than keep the door open for them, I decided to make a cat door. I’ve never done this before, but what could be difficult about cutting a hole in the door and framing it? The door needed to be painted anyway!

First I drilled a hole in each corner of where I wanted the cat door to be. I decided to make it in the “panel” of the door so that it would look neater. Then I cut around with my jigsaw to make a square opening.

After that I made some wood pieces to fit into the sides of the hole I cut. I made grooves in the wood so that it could be held in place with glue and sit a bit inside the door’s outer and inner skins.

The framing was glued into place…
and then painted turquoise!

I haven’t yet put any type of flap on the door, so for now it will stay like this.
