no previous part Part 1 of WoodWork 101 series no next part

After completing my first woodwork project, I realize that there are tons of things around the house that I can fix myself:

- doors that don’t close properly
- increase storage space by building/adding shelves
- fix wobbly furniture (chairs, bed frames)
- build hook strips/hangers for hanging clothes

Some of the larger projects I look forward to getting into include:

- building two benches by our main house entrance (inside)
- build a fence around our small yard

My absolute #1, dream project, is to build a Classical Guitar. I have already gathered materials for the build, and I am reading up on it. Can’t wait to start.

Love this website!

Best regards,

Welcome to LumberJocks. You found a great website to learn some of the above mentioned skills from.

The bed went together very nicely. A great attitude about projects, I look forward to seeing some of them in the future. In regards to your list I would suggest looking here on the site for the various coat hooks. They are a great starter project and can be very simple or really complex but either way can teach you a lot. Plus the added benefit is they are really handy.

Look forward to seeing more.

Thank you Chris,

I appreciate your reply.

The first two things I need to do as I move to new projects are to organize my tools better, and to create more work space in our garage. I have lots of hand tools, but they are scattered around. I also have lots of space, but it is quite cluttered right now.

It gives one a great sense of satisfaction to complete work with their own hands!
I love it so far!

Good day,

Today I got a $100 gift certificate at Home Depot :O)

Going to buy some hooks for this next project I am going to start soon (a coat rack) and also some supplies for my guitar project. The guitar project will take months to finish, but I am getting started now.

Today I am planning to buy the following:

- hooks for rack (I already have four on an old rack, and I will probably buy six more of the same kind)
- some kind of wood finish (shellac?) to finish the rack with
- a sharpening rock (for my hand plane and chisels)
- assorted chisels (for my guitar project
- 1-2 hand rasps for carving/shaping wood
- hand carving tool for carving guitar neck (don’t know what it’s called)

My $100 may not be enough, so I may cut some things out.

Home Depot, here I come!
