Curly Maple and Cocobolo box

The main body of the box is Curly Maple with Walnut corner splines. I decided to use the sapwood side of the Cocobolo for the lid and added walnut to the front and back as a nice contrast. The handle is also Cocobolo and as you can see there is a big difference in the coloring. The box may be used as a small jewelry or keepsake box and the tray is removable.

Walnut box with Turquoise accents

This was my first attempt at doing Turquoise inlay and it was quite a learning process. Started out trying epoxy and it was way to thick and took for ever to cure. After searching many articles on the internet and read blogs from other LJ members on their inlay process I finally figured out CA glue is the way to go. I brought the walnut from a local supplier and they sell it as rustic Walnut. Having knots, checks and even some worm activity the wood is perfect for doing small amounts of inlay. I am always looking for comments and suggestions so please feel free to leave your ideas. Thanks Doug Sorry for the double posting still figuring out how to post pictures.

Keepsake Box

I made this box for another cousin as a gift she gave to her granddaughter. The main body of the box is Pacific Coast Figured Maple. The lid, and handle are Morado as well as the dovetail corner splines. I sand my boxes down to 1200 grit, which almost gives them a polished look. Then I give them one coat of Danish oil and wax them with Briwax and polish by hand.

With the help of a friend I finally learned how to post my project pictures here on LJ. I sure hope you don’t get tired of seeing my boxes lol.
I made this keepsake box as a wedding gift for my cousin and his bride. The front and back are Pacific Coast Figured Maple as well as the lid. The ends are Chechen. The lid accents are Caraco De Negro and the handle is Morado. I really enjoy using exotic hardwoods mixed with domestic hardwoods. Thanks for looking.
