As I made a list of projects that I needed for the shop, I also realized it might be a good idea to keep a running list of projects that I want to make that are not for the shop, as that is eventually what it all should lead to, no?

So I’m starting a list here that I will update as new ideas emerge.

1. drop-leaf cutting table. The plans for this are fairly advanced and sketched in sketchup. I have some ash earmarked for the legs and the frame, and some nice birch plywood for the top. All parts are rough cut and thicknessed (which is when I realized I needed dust collection!) This is a utilitarian project for my sewing studio, so that I don’t break my back everytime I have to cut out a pattern to sew. It’s counter top height, mortise/tenon construction and gateleg supports at both ends of the table, with drawers in the middle for measuring and cutting tools.

2. bookcase / cabinet for my husbands office area. Still in the process of designing this and thinking about dimensions and type of wood.

3. garden bench for the front of our house. There is one spot that is in the shade in the late afternoon when the porch still is hot and has full sun at that time and that would make a nice place to sit and enjoy the garden in the spring/summer and fall. Just a concept in my head at this point in time.

4. Shoe bench for the front porch so that the shoes are not all over the place on the porch, and we don’t track dirt back into the house. Something with some higher cubbies for rubber boots, and lower ones for regular shoes and clogs.
