I have been a weekend warrior carpenter for about twenty years fixing up old houses, tearing out plaster and lathe, moving doors, siding, roofing and all that stuff, self taught with whatever how to books were needed. When it was finally time to put in a new kitchen i found my excuse to visit the Grizzly outlet in Pa. and pick up some heavy iron- table saw, joiner, drill press and make my own kitchen cabinets. I decided to do some skill building projects first to get some practice. So a few projects turned out well and I am getting the urge to do more. My wife collects antiques, most of our furniture has claw feet or cabriole legs, mahogany, rosewood, cherry, heavy turnings and all that. I on the other hand am more of a craftsman style guy. What strikes me about lumberjocks is the variety of projects, the skill level, the good humor, sense of joy in what you do and in humility. Humility is good and woodworking gives me much to be humble about because it is honest. When you make a mistake it is right there staring you in the face. I have made some very expensive firewood already.
