My name is John and the absolutely gorgeous woman next to me in the picture is my wife Emmy. I would first like to begin by thanking God for the wonderful gifts and talents that He has given me. I have been able to draw ever since I could pick up a pencil and paint ever since I got my hands on a brush...
I first began tearing down old buildings when I was 17 years old for the purpose of re-using the materials for other construction projects. The first building that I was involved in was an old school house that was given to my Mom to tear down for the lumber. When I was 21 my aunt and uncle hired me to help them with a few construction projects, which included tearing down a number of barns to for the lumber. When the projects were close to being finished they offered me a huge barn to tear down, an offer that my family and I could not refuse (lots of nice lumber)!
In 2001 I flew to the Philippines to meet my future wife in person for the first time. We checked into a resort on a small island and it was there that I truly became inspired to start making furniture. I observed the building and construction methods of the local craftsmen and was amazed with what they were able to do with a few simple hand tools (when I say hand tools, I'm talking about tools that don't require electricity). I decided that our room was in need of some extra furnishings, so after getting permission from the owner of the resort I purchased a little bit of lumber and got to work. I have been building furniture ever since.
I have never had any shop classes in school, so what a wonderful blessing it was to find out that I have been given a great artistic ability to work and be creative with some of Gods very own artwork...wood.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
tom

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself just about 2 years ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
I apologize for the late welcome but I am currently serving overseas and don’t have a lot of spare time on my hands.

Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…
