My first woodworking "project" came about by happenstance. My family recently moved, and I was looking to build a workbench for a storage room adjacent to our basement. I was planning to use the bench for small home repair projects, motorcycle/car repair on delicate parts, etc. I looked at benches at the local hardware stores, and thought - "Hey, I could do this."
I built a bench based on plans/video from Fine Woodworking's website, which led me to buy a circular saw and a router. Armed with these new tools, I set to work. The project was much more challenging and time consuming than I anticipated - but I had such a great time building the bench. I was hooked!
Over the past few months I've been trying to build my skills: reading, practicing techniques, buying some tools, watching video. I've built several small projects (of questionable quality.) But what a great hobby! I've been reading this excellent site fairly often and figured it was about time I signed up for lumberjocks.
