Getting the new workshop set up.

  • First up – New-to-me 3HP industrial SawStop. Bought super-cheap from an architecture school that killed the motor. New motor (~$300), a few extra bits and pieces (~$50), and I’ve got a full functioning 3hp sawstop for 1/8th the price of new.
Newly acquired:
  • 14” or bigger bandsaw – Picked up a 14” JET from a University Auction for $130. Just missing it’s switch and a blade, and it’s as good as new.
  • Drill press – Got a 1978 Taiwan Benchtop press from a closing machine shop for $40.
  • Sanding – Small combo disc/belt sander for $40 from CL.
  • Bench grinder (for sharpening, restoring old hand tools) – picked up a WEN 8 inch slow speed grinder on sale. Not my best purchase, but I have one now.
  • Thickness planer – Old RBI 612 planer/molder/sander. Needs sharpened and the beds aligned, but works pretty good as is.
Still on the hunt for:
  • Jointer
Latest Builds:
  • Lots and Lots of french cleat tool holders
  • Crosscut sled
On the build list:
  • Assembly table/work bench.
  • Various Jigs as needed.

That’s an excellent start! Good luck in your search for other new toys. Have fun making dust!

A great table saw is the heart of it all, excellent work to find that one for a minimal cost, and to jump in and fix it up.

Your shop area and mine have something in common … bicycles!
I love my bikes, but I sure wish I had a good out-of-the-weather storage option for them, that is not in the shop.
