Any of you have the similar unit and painted it? If so what kind of paint/stain did you use? ThanksDan

Hello everyone,My woodworking shop is just about done. I am continuously researching the tools I would like to have.I was looking at the Jessem MRL Excel II and you can get the stand with this unit. Compound mightier saw - 28 replies
Hello everyone,I am new to woodworking and soon to start purchasing the big tools for my shop. The first is a saw stop table saw. I was thinking about all the bigger tools and was wondering. Is there really a need for a compound mitre saw? If I have a table saw and I already got a Festool TS55 Plunge Cut saw, is a mitre saw justified? I see most...

Hearing protection - 45 replies
Hello folks, I just broke my earmuffs I brought from HD. Do any of you use these noise cancelling headsets or recommend a good set. I think I paid about $20 for the HD ones but they were not good enough as I found using a sander and shop vac to be a bit loud. I believe in you get what you pay for. Thanks,Dan

What to do with plywood - 34 replies
Hey everyone,I am soon finishing the sheeting inside my woodworking shop. I am using standard grade 1/2” plywood I got at home depot. I live in NL, Canada and my shop is a detached garage. The rules here for a shop are a bit more free than most other places, so plywood is allowed. I was thinking of maybe staining the plywood or putting som...

Hi everyone, I am just brand new to woodworking. In the process of collecting tools along the way. I am looking to purchase the Festool RO 90 DX 3 1/2” disc sander. Because of its size I am looking at some thing a little bigger to go with it. And I was thinking of the ETS 125 EQ random orbit sander with a 5” sanding pad diameter. ...

router or shaper - 11 replies
I am brand new to woodworking. My shop is up, electrical is about 80% done. I am into the researching phase and because of my inexperience, I read many books and the internet is the educating tool. Usually what I do is take each major tool and read reviews galore. And that is part of the fun.I am looking at a router table by Jessem at the moment...

CLear Vue Cyclone - 23 replies
Hey Guys,I have a 60 amp sub panel in my woodworking shop, fed from the house. I am looking at getting the CV 1800. Just got an email from CV stating the current rating of the motor is 20.8 Amps (220 V/5HP). The TS I am ordering (Grizzly:G0690) is rated 12.8 amps (220 V/3 HP). I am wondering if there will be any problems with running both. The i...

Shop Cabinets - 4 replies
Hi everyone, I live in Canada and have been researching reading material about shop storage cabinets. I think the best response I have seen has been centered around Tom Clark’s, ’’ Practical Shop Cabinets’’. I went to his web site and there doesn’t appear to be any mention of the availability of this book...

Grizzly Jointer: beds & cutting heads - 22 replies
Hello everyone, I am in the researching phase of the big tools and as many of you know it is part of the fun but it can be a little overwhelming. My question is about the grizzly jointer line. As far as I can see (and I stand to be corrected on this) they offer either the spiral cutter head with a dovetail way bed or the cutter knives ...

Which dust collector - 17 replies
Hello all, I am still in the building phase of my workshop. The electrical wiring is about 1/3 done. It looks like I might have to route my dust collection lines up to my ceiling from the DC (I have a 9’ ceiling and the shop is 22 X 26) and then to distribute the lines to the big tools. At this stage of the game I am still researchin...

General Jointer, same but different? - 3 replies
Hi everyone, I am looking at getting a jointer (my first) and am pretty much positive on the 6” General. There are two types: the 80-075L which is the open style and the 80-100L, the closed. Both these units have the 55 1/4” table and about the only difference I can see is the open and closed style. Do any of you own one of thes...

General Table Saw - 14 replies
Hi Guys, I am leaning towards a General tablesaw, namely the 50-200R. (I live in Newfoundland Canada, so I am somewhat limited on what I can buy.) Any of you used this particular saw or another General TS that thinks it is a good product. Also, the issue with right or left tilt, I have read reviews and it seems to me that the left tilt is t...
