Hi,
I’ve just bought a used King drum sander.
As I’ve already posted here, this sander uses 3”1/4 paper and some of you suggested to replace it
by 3”.

Since then, some suppliers try to convince me that the wider, the better it is.
One of them told me that he was cutting jumbo 12” paper rolls to the width I’d want in multiples
so 3”, 4”, even 6” as requested.

What do you think about that ?.
Tks.

I have a 22” Performax drum sander and have used both 3” and 4” paper. Either will work just fine. The problem (with mine) it is designed for 3” paper, so when using 4” it doesn’t “end” in the right spot to use the built paper holder (clip things) so I have to dust tape one end and be sure not to sand there…..:^). Good luck.

-- Jeff - I have not failed. I've just found 10,002 ways that won't work.

Save yourself a world of headaches and switch to hook and loop now, before you buy a pile of expensive paper. The sander will perform much better. Grizzley has conversion kits for remarkably low $.

I wish I’d changed over years ago. Now I’m really happy with my sander (General clone) and sadly have a lot of 3” paper left over.

Paul, that sounds like the way to go instead of having to clip it on and have it stay tight to the roll!. But is it much more expensive that way? What width hook and loop do you use?...................thanks, Jim

I bought the Grizzly conversion kit to make my ShopSmith drum sander in AZ and liked it so much I put it on my dual drum machine at home. I’ve since bought H&L rolls from them. I think they are 3” but I’d have to measure.
