Looks like fir to me … Need more info, like how hard is it and what it smells like when you shave off a piece, and so on.

smells a little like cedar, doesn’t seem very hard

Cedar was used in some construction of post and pier buildings. The beams were normally fir and some of the posts were Cedar because of the resistance to rot.
If it looks like Cedar and sells like cedar then it just might be cedar, and cedar is softer than fir.
