Found Today ~ Wood Gloat

From left to right-
Orange wood - gnarly, twisted top end
Oak - burly crotch wood,
Mahogany - straight grained
Pecan - (I think) wormy holed
Oak (again) - straight grained

Any suggestions on cutting the oak trunk to manageable (12" bandsaw) size? I have a 14" electric chainsaw.

score on the wood there….yeah, split it with a maul and wedges…then build a resaw jig for a bandsaw…you'll probably use it in the future as well http://lumberjocks.com/projects/2400 I have a similar jig as Bob #2…and it opens up another world of wood to use because I'm always looking for firewood and downed trees that have been sawn into firewood.

Thanks Barry! I don't know if it will split, it's pretty gnarly and interlocked. But, I will try. Once I get it apart that jig would be useful. There are many tropical hardwoods down here that never get milled. They cut them down and send them to the landfill. For what I need, chunks like this are perfect. I have an old Craftsman 12" bandsaw with about 6" of headroom and a 8" jointer/planer combo (Jet).
