DIY Air Filtration Unit Question - 3 replies

So, I’m often a DIY type of guy when it comes to building things like shop cabinets, jigs, etc. I’m wanting to install a ceiling mounted air filtration unit in my small shop, but am contemplating building my own instead of buying the usual Jet, Powermatic, JDS, etc. offerings. Nothing wrong with those guys, I just kinda like to cus...

Great Deal on Older Delta Unisaw in Boise - 1 reply

Ran across this today and thought I would post it here in the event that any LJ’s within reasonable distance might be interested. Great deal on a timeless classic: http://boise.craigslist.org/tls/2838168406.html I have a ‘54 with the cast iron motor cover intact and I absolutely love the thing. Very sweet machine! If you’...

Fine Woodworking Article on Upgrading Vintage Planes - 3 replies

Somewhere along the way I remember hearing about a FWW article with a title something like, “Turn Your Vintage Plane into a Premium Performer.” That’s not exactly it, but it gets at the gist of it. Basically, it’s about things you can do to take old Stanley/Record type planes and tweak them to perform like much more cos...

Restoring DeWalt RAS - 3 replies

LJ’s – can anyone lend some advice? I recently purchased an old DeWalt 1200 RAS that I’m starting to work on restoring. However, I’m having trouble getting the upper yoke handle/crank off. There’s a deep set screw (I believe it’s an allen set screw, but I can’t see it clearly to tell because it’...

Sourcing a Solid Cast Iron Extension Wing for Unisaw - 1 reply

I’m looking for a good source to add a CI extension wing to my Delta Unisaw like this one: http://www.toolking.com/brand/delta-tools/delta-saws/delta-saw-accessories/delta-36-937-10-inch-universal-cast-iron-table-saw-extension-wing/ but they seem either out of stock or out of production. Tablesaw Router Table Extension - 1 reply

Has anyone ever tried to mount a TS router table extension with an older Delta Unisaw that has the “round tube” types of fence rails? I’m wondering how to provide support for the extension if you can’t bolt it into the standard square tube type of rails. Any thoughts/experience with this challenge?

New Porter Cable 12" Miter Saw - 2 replies

So, I was at Lowe’s the other day and thinking about possibly stepping up from my entry-level 10” Delta miter saw to a unit w/greater cutting capacity & accuracy: either a slider 10” or non-slider 12”. I noticed PC has a new non-slider 12” that looks fairly feature-rich. I went home and decided to check out t...

Planer Question - 9 replies

I’m new to serious woodworking and to the LJ Forum. I recently demoed a Makita 2030N Planer/Jointer combo unit that I’m considering buying. The jointer seemed to work okay, but left a little deeper cut at the end – kinda snipe-like. I figure this is likely just a need to adjust the feed tables to get them totally flat. (I w...
