Is this Maple?

So I haver had this natural board for quite a while now. When I purchased it I was told that it was Maple. Immediately underneath the board in question is a table made out of curly maple. Both boards have only a clear finish on them. Does the top board look like maple or is it something else?

I might be the last person you would want to ask, but it sure could be tiger maple with IMHO. I think tiger maple is the most beautiful wood of all.

Can you get a higer resolution picture?
It looks like it could be maple, but the crotch area is a deciveing spot to make an determination from, those waves are due to the weight of the branch over years of growth so it looks a bit like quilting, but as you can see from your quilted maple below, it is very different looking in the rest of the straight wood.

How old is that piece? Maple can deepen in tone over time, not quite the way cherry does, but it can be quite a shift.

That said, it could be the lighting, but getting that tone from maple usually needs an ambering finish.

Call me crazy, but would you rule out Bradford Pear? Color and branching pattern looks like that. With a clear finish it can be that color.

The bark on that little stub of a branch at the end might provide more clues.
