I’ve been meaning to get started on making a bed for the master bedroom. My goal is to build a long headboard out of Wenge with some sap wood that I will straighten and flip the natural edges to the center and mount it on the wall. I finally found the wenge boards this past spring.
I invested a small fortune in these boards, but I guess if the bed turns out well I’m going to have it for the rest of my life… so it should be worth it right?. They are each 13 feet long and I should be able to make matching bedside tables out of them.
While the headboard will be mainly Wenge with a Sapele lap jointed frame, the bedframe will be mainly Sapele with heavy Wenge accents. I want to incorporate an interesting use of negative space. I started with a relatively simple drawing on paper. I’ve shaped the boards and I’m currently working on the mounting frame. At the moment it measures 11 feet long by 32.5 inches tall. I’ve worked out most of the details….now I just have to let it take shape.
